Shooting a conference should be fun. Period. It's a butt load of people cramming into one place to learn something new and exciting, what's not fun about that? Don't get bent out of shape when the lighting is too low or the aisles don't lend themselves to photographers ducking and weaving all over the place. Give yourself a mental fist bump and get to shooting! Oh, and introduce yourself to absolutely EVERYONE. You are not "the help" you are present to capture the moment and who's to say you can't make the moment better by making everyone laugh by telling a joke or flexing your muscles?

The client simply asked that we show the magnitude of the build out. It is a massive build out so you would think that would be a relatively easy task. The problem was there wasn't anywhere to get the shot from. We couldn't shoot around all the construction equipment because, well, we didn't want to lose our lives. And we couldn't shoot around the perimeter because the wing was surrounded by an 8 foot fence. So, we improvised and got permission to shoot from a massive "A" from office building at the very corner of the construction. They made us wear hard hats which made us feel awesome because we rarely get to look manly when we shoot.
Some shooters would struggle with not having complete control over their shoots. We just roll with it. We are there to do a job, to get the shot and to wow our clients. Patrick didn't lean over and ask if I had renewed our workers comp insurance, we just high fived and enjoyed the adventure.

Blirts.com is now FreshInk Apparel!
We recently realized that we have waaaay too many irons in the fire. Therefore, we smacked Blirts.com over the head with the very same iron, knocked it out, and stole it's fans. If you are the type of sissy that is afraid of a swinging hot iron, then FreshInk Shirts isn't for you .. if your a hairy tough guy with the facial hair of a Sasquatch then this shirt subscription should be right up your alley.
FreshInk Shirts is a Shirt O' the Month Club or you can simply buy a shirt from the store (but it's more expensive and all around less cool).
A few months back we were honored when the guys at Less Everything asked us to provide still photography and video for their first ever conference. We knew the fellas were going to do it up right, because that is simply how they roll, but we honestly had no idea it was going to be as awesome as it was.
First off the guys picked a great location with a beautiful conference center (nestled right on the river walk) and hoppin night life. Second off (second off?) they had absolutely awesome speakers (Des Traynor & Eoghan McCabe of Contrast.ie, Kevin Hale of Woofoo, Mike McDerment of Freshbooks (a company FreshInk uses), Derek Sivers of CD Baby, and Gary Vee of ... well He's Gary Vee and more. Top knotch speakers got brought some great stuff to the table and make the $200 or so bucks people paid to get it well worth it.
Check out the images here and we will let you know when the video goes live (read: viral).

Every single person that works at FreshInk is an ultra geek. We all love technology, U.I., blogs, and generally anything nerdy. So when onONe software launched their new cable release app for the iPhone we were all a twitter, er ... uh. Anyway, we snatched it up right before an in studio shoot thinking we would be able to use it right away. Unfortunately there were some things that weren't readily apparent, like you have to have your laptop tethered to your camera and have WiFi enabled for it to work. But once we got it all hooked up and working it did work relatively seamlessly. We still haven't figured out how to make our strobes fire in live view mode (or if it's even possible) but just the ability to have live mode is amazing! I won't use this app on a daily basis but for twenty bucks it's absolutely worth the price. When I do need it I will have it at my finger tips and BOOOYAAAA amazing hands free shooting.
You can check out the software at ononesoftware.com

We are proud to announce our photo studio (injoy) is open for business. We can now accomodate all of your family photo needs. We have a blast shooting everything from baby portraits to weddings and of course we are still able to meet all your commercial photography needs as well. Stop by and grab a cup of coffe from our state of the art coffee pot and sit a spell, we would be glad to have you.

The FreshInk studio has been a wreck as of late. It's not because we are a bunch of neanderthals, although some might say we are, it's because we have been undergoing a much needed renovation. We are exhited about the transformation our space has undergone while keeping it's charm and amazing natural light feel.
The build out was a necessary part of a new project we are starting called Injoy Studios. More on that in the near future.
If you are downtown you should stop on by and say "hi" and grab a cup of coffee. We haven't re-opened just yet, but it won't be long now that we are in the home stretch!

Every once in awhile we get some ants in our pants and we create something just to create. That is partially the case with our new online surf shop Recycled Surf. After spending a combined billion hours looking through all the knick knacks on Craigslist we decided to create a site that specialized in just one product, used surf boards. We had a quick brain storming session & got to work & in a few days the site was up & functioning. We have a few kinks to work out but if you have a surf, skim or kite board for sale, throw it up on the site for FREE. We are also interested in feedback on how we can make the site better so fire those off to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it as well please.
At FreshInk we are all about great design. That greatness might ooze from the minds and tablet pens of the F.I. crew or from a workshop in Nantucket. It might be a web based creative tour de force or a hand stamped leather riding saddle. Great design is the type of thing that when viewed is instantly appreciated. It's not unlike a beautiful woman or a handsome pair of sneakers.
For this reason we created Freakin Fantastic. It's not a big fancy award or large cash prize, and your Gram won't see you on the evening news. Think of Ftastic as a gentleman's tip of the hat and a long awaited pat on the back.
This weeks Ftastic award goes to Geekhouse Bikes, a custom bicycle company run by Marty Walsh, out of Boston. The craftsmanship that goes into each ride is evident and the personality of the company only adds to my desire to own one of these freakin fantastic bikes.
So good on ya Marty, thanks for not being boring & expect an order for a FreshInk Fixie soon!
